This is the third book in the series of Crowner John mysteries by Bernard Knight, and it picks up quite nicely where the second book (The Poisoned Chalice) left off. This book again focuses mainly on Sir John, with many of the other characters being more bit parts – however his brother-in-law does get a bit more attention.
One nice feature I found was that characters who had been to the for in the last couple of books, appear again in passing in this book, which makes the world seem more solid. And it was interesting to see Black John put him self into matters where he was not welcome.
Again another enjoyable read.
